About this Award

Since 1994, CAFCE has chosen a student each year to receive the CAFCE Co-op Student of the Year Award (CSOTYA). This award recognizes a wide variety of achievements -- job performance, academic performance and responsibility, and particular contributions to their co-op employer, to Co-operative Education, and the community-at-large.The award is presented to a college and a university Co-operative Education student. The two winning students will be celebrated during National Co-operative Education Week. They receive a certificate and a $500 cash award from CAFCE to recognized their achievements. All nominated students will receive a letter and certificate of recognition for their national nomination.

In addition, the two winning students will receive the Emery-Dufault Award ($500) in recognition of the contributions of two of the founding fathers of Co-operative Education in Canada, Dr. Charles Leslie (Les) Emery and Professor George Joseph Dufault.

Nomination Guidelines and Form

CAFCE is looking for one university co-op student and one college co-op student of the year (2012) and you can help! The winning students, their institutions, and employers will receive national recognition as a result of these awards. Each winning student will receive a $1,000 cash award (the CAFCE award of $500.00 and the Emery-Dufault award of $500.00). A member of CAFCE may nominate two candidates with the approval of the employers and students. All nomination materials become the property of CAFCE to be used in promoting co-operative education. Each winning student is required to provide their Social Insurance Number once announced.

B. In order to be eligible for this award, a student must be nominated by a member of CAFCE with approval of the employer. A CAFCE Member Institution may nominate no more than two (2) candidates and from different programs within the institution wherever possible.

C. Co-op programs must meet the CAFCE Definition of Co-operative Education D. Work term, for which the student is being nominated, must be completed within the calendar year, 2012. Candidates may not be nominated twice in two consecutive years for a work term that spans two calendar years.

One (1) PDF electronic document of all completed nomination materials must be RECEIVED by e-mail at (cafce@cafce.ca) on Tuesday, January 22, 2013,  by 4 p.m. EST.
